Although the Latop reached late and had some defective parts initially, but on informing the seller they have shipped the replacements/promised to compensate for the faulty parts. Reply to the communications are always prompt.
Over all very satisfied with the support from seller.

Average laptop, not recommended for home use

I've been using a Dell T630 for the past 3 days, 8 hours a day while undertaking some intensive training class. I am not going to enumerate the published specs for this machine but, instead I will run the specs against what I perceive as its usability and how that correlates to the price.
It's probably fair to state that there is little remarkable about this machine. So, here they are, my observations:
- Most of the basic featuresc found on cheaper models are found in the T630 as well.
- Some features found in cheaper models, such as biometric (fingerprint) authentication are not supported.
- Max resolution is 1440x900
- Small 60-80GB hard drive - I can't see how equipping a $2000 laptop with a $50 hard drive can be possibly justified (for our class purposes, an installation that included Windows XP, Firefox and some VMWare filled up the disk, leaving only 1GB free).
- Keybord is below average, "molasses" feel, need to strike the keys hard for a keystroke to register.
- Same as above for the mouse button emulators, only worse.
- 4 USB ports (that's a good thing), 2 in the back and to on the right.
- Heavy.
I award this machine 3 stars only because I am ignoring the outrageous posted price because prices can and do change. So, price not considered, it's an average, unremarkable machine. I can tolerate it for another day or 2 of training but, if this was my office laptop, the size of the hard drive and the subpar keyboard would proably have me petition my IT department for a replacement.
Of course, using it with a docking station (and it DOES have docking capabilities) would take care of the keyboard issue but the minuscule hard drive would still be a concern. |

This was given to me by my employer to replace my Macbook.
It's an ok system.
For the price, I've seen laptops on sale for about half the price and with very similar (and sometimes better) components. Thus I couldn't figure out why this is priced so high when it doesn't do that much more than many of the $700-$900 systems today.
Well either way, it meets my business needs just fine.
I'm running a call center management software (real-time monitoring), Quality Assurance package, Instant messaging, Word, Excel and Outlook all at the same time without noticeable delay between activities.
My co-worker though, who just got the same system, says he couldn't run the same apps without major slow-down. If that is the case, the only difference I can account for is I went and googled "xp optimization". I found a couple of web-sites and optimized xp by turning off a bunch of out-of-the-box stuff that aren't necessary.
As far as non-business related activities, I installed Warhammer:Online which is a massive multiplayer online game with pretty hefty system requirements. The game played fine for two reasons: Core2Duo and video. The biggest performance impact to video games is the graphics and RAM. The saving grace here is that the video card does NOT have shared memory like many other laptops. So I didn't loose my 2GB RAM to shared video because it had its own to deal with the graphics load. This is probably why the cost is a bit more but still it shouldn't be over twice the price of other laptops.
Running on multiple monitors and/or doing presentations have been fine performance-wise.
Can't put this laptop on your lap, it gets hot. That is a bummer.
Fans are pretty quiet. I also appreciate having 4 usb ports.
After some movies, music, business files and application installs; I'm already down to 15Gb free on a 80Gb drive. Too small of a drive.
OVERALL:
This system meets my basic business and gaming needs.
But the price of $2K+ on Amazon is ridiculous and I would never pay for this out of pocket. For that price I'd expect more RAM and more hard-disk. |

| WOULD NOT recommend this product. I have had two of these in four years, and the battery life is TERRIBLE. The dvd player also wears out quickly - on each computer, I had to have it replaced. Would recommend getting an HP computer |
Underpowered but reliable to degree

| I've been using this machine for the past 10 months. For what it makes up in being underpowered it at eventually gets the tasks done. Running Windows Vista and no Nvidia cards so it can explode like my previous HP Dv6000 that I had at home; the D630 is clunky to carry, the keys feel flimsy, and the touchpad is very small and hard to use. I've had to restart the machine once every other time I power it to get the touchpad working correctly. Multitasking on this machine is no easy feat with the limited memory options. Opening a few Excel spreadsheets at once and the thing will slow down immensely. Overall for a work computer, I would not recommend this laptop and the hefty price tag shown here you can definitely do lot better with more power and options available for current laptop models on sale. |
