Very nice AIO printer

I use this printer in a home office environment and it does a very nice job. Printouts are very crisp with good quality. Colors are vibrant and sharp. Copies are fast and of very good quality and faxes are very easy to send and receive.
While this printer is a bit more than other available "all in ones", I felt that the cost per print with the new, higher yielding cartridges will over time provide a much better cost of ownership. The "Premier" version of this printer offers the extra cartridges for colors (not black!) and the added tray. Since the difference is about one hundred dollars and the regular yield cartridges are 20 each, I figure the real difference is that you are paying 40 for a the extra tray. Well worth it for me. Other than the three extra cartridges, the extra tray, and some marketing software that I thought was not that valuable, the printer is the same as the "wireless" version.
Overall the printer is fast, but not blazing (slow in duplex mode). Does a good job to go on sleep mode. So with the energy efficiency and duplex capability, I do think that it is more efficient to run over time since you use less power and less paper (if you can live with the slowness in duplex which I usually can).
I am very happy with print performance and it looks solidly built. You can print or scan multiple pages with the built in Auto document feed (ADF) which makes it very, very nice. It is easy to operate right on the built in display and buttons which my kids and wife love. Without any instructions they were copying things in no time. The scan works with up to Legal/A4 size pages. It has been a great choice for my home office. The wireless function has worked flawlessly in my network (6 computers attached). |

First, I use this HP 8500 printer in my office, everyday, with fairly high volumes of printing. I bought the Premier to get the extra paper tray for my letterhead paper. I bot it primarily for the scanning fuction but also use it as my primary printer and copier. I don't use the fax, as I have a dedicated fax already. I also have it hard wired rather than using it wireless. Every function works very good. It's the best AIO I've owned and used. (I also use the HP 7580 Officejet Pro AIO at home). The 8500 is better all around, it's quieter and easier to use. The scanning software is superior to the previous generation of AIOs. The set up was easy with no problems. The only difficulty I am having is printing an envelope. This should be easy but for some reason it won't print a #10 envelope. Most likely user error, I'll have to figuire it out. All things considered, this is a very good machine.

Does Everything a Printer Should

I bought this Officejet Pro 8500 for a home office. My wife works at home for a mortgage co. We needed a printer/scanner the most. I was going to get a laser printer with an ADF ( auto document feeder). Most have only a bed scanner. Which is a pain in the _____ for scanning multiple docs. If they did have an ADF it scanned in fax quality only. This scanner has good enough quality for pictures. So instead of having two printers, one for digital photos and other home projects and another for the office printing I only need one. The printer I use for home ( a Canon Pixma ) is an ink hog. The office jet lasts way longer. I was going through two black cartriges a week. The Officejet 8500 black lasted two weeks and the 940 XL black has been in the printer for a month and the ink usage shows to still have half left.
It isn't that hard to set up like one reviewer said. It goes through a self setup mode at first that takes a while but that is only on the very first start-up. It prints a lot faster than my Canon. Wireless set up was easy. It found my router instantly, I did however have to make some firewall changes to work. AVG blocks it unless you go into the firewall settings.
My only complaint is that it would be nice if the printing software would recognize a different paper size in the second bay, like legal in tray 1 and letter in tray 2. But it is really designed for just more capacity. You can make a tray a primary, so when it runs out it won't get paper from the other. But to change media size you have to go into the settings menu and change the paper size and tell it to use the other tray.
Over all I am very pleased with the Pro 8500 and Amazon's price smoked all of the local office supply stores. On top of that free shipping and no tax. |

| I traded in my old HP Officejet for the 8500. It had been a VERY reliable workhorse for the last 5 years, so I felt confident in heading to HP for a replacement. However, based on the previous reviews saying that it was noisy and jammed I was unsure. Working out of a home office where I print approximately 100-150 pages per day in color and black/white I needed a great printer. So, I travled to Office Depot and Staples to get more information, I found that all of the clerks recommended the 8500 immediately and assured me that everyone that purchased this printer loved it. My last piece of research brought me to Consumer Reports that listed the Officejet 8500 in it's Top 5 printers. So, I ordered the printer from Amazon at a ridiculously AWESOME price and have been using the printer for approximately 1 month. Well...........it's terrific. Super easy to set up, prints much faster than my last printer, is significantly quieter than all my previous printers, and is very easy to use. The additional tray that holds legal size paper has made my life much easier. Quality of print is fantastic and replacing the ink cartridges is going to be much simpler. I LOVE this printer and highly recommend it. |

| This printer has been everything that I had hoped for in a all-in-one. We purchased this printer to replace a HP 7310 all-in-one that we gave to my parents. In comparison to printers we have had in the past this printer and software is far better than any other we have used. I was a little hesitant due to some of the bad reviews I have seen. Setup was easy, works great with our network (wired) and have had very good results. The ink tanks are large compared to the hp 7310 which is great because we do alot of printing, approx. 1000 pages a month. We have printed just about everything I can think of, letter, pictures, legal size and so far so good. We also use the document feeder for faxes and scanning several times a week and have not had any problems. The software for managing the printer is very good and works well with the other HP printer that we have (B9180). The scan to network folder and scan to email functions are awesome. We are using this printer with windows 7 (32&64 bit) and vista 32 bit computers and the drivers and software & printer is working without a single problem. This printer just works and works great. I'm not sure why others have had problems with this printer, but I would certainly purchase this printer again. |
